Smooth Operator - the Mazda MX-5 Miata
This silver 2009 Mazda MX-5, also known as the Miata, is a two-seat convertible sports car known for its agile handling, lightweight build, and reliable operation, drawing inspiration from classic British roadsters while offering the kind of dependability and ease of use that keeps it popular today.
The location is simple - it's in the driveway. Street lights and passing traffic are ignored or edited out of the final image. The roadster is the star of the show with a beautiful soft light accentuating the body work and muscular wheel arches.
The Build
After the lightpainting passes were completed and we packed up and left, it was time for the build. The individual layers are opened on the computer, examined, and selected for carefully layering together, blending into the finished product.
Sometimes the scene is lightpainted as well as the vehicle, allowing the environment to be part of the story. In this case the setting was unattractive, so it was minimized while keeping the street light illumination that reflects on the hood.
There is skill and judgment combined with a lot of attention to detail, and an artful vision in creating the finished image, suitable to be printed and hung on the wall.
In the example below, the entire background has been replaced with a modern garage that echoes the color palette of silver, shadows and orange lighting.
